Platform Summary Submitted to the Cary Chamber of Commerce
I would consider it a great honor to serve the citizens of District D as their representative on the Cary Town Council. This will be my first elected office. However, I have a proven record of leadership in professional and community organizations, as well as in the workplace. I believe that I have business, interpersonal and leadership skills to offer as well as much to learn.
New knowledge is easy to attain; attitudes and values are difficult to change. Citizens in District D are eager to see greater transparency in local government and are committed to their role as a partner in, not a recipient of, policy decisions that affect their neighborhoods and families. As a Council member I will welcome the input of Cary citizens. I believe the job of the Council is to evaluate all available, reliable data and to make well-reasoned, evidenced-based decisions that consider current and future implications for the town and its citizens.
Meaningful citizen participation is a must in representational government. The Council's appointment process should strive to create the broadest possible diversity of perspective among members of the Town's Boards and Commissions. Once this is done, recommendations by Boards and Commissions should factor into Council deliberations and decisions more substantively.
Cary's continued economic development will depend upon growth that balances the needs of all its citizens, current and future. I stand ready to participate in this challenging and important process.
