- Co-chair of the Preventive Services Task Force of the NC Health Planning Commission
- Member of the Triangle Chapter of the American Lung Association Board of Directors
- A Mentor in the Peace College Mentoring Program
- Special Voter Registration Commissioner for the Wake County Board of Elections
- North Carolina's only public member of the accrediting body for colleges and universities in the 11 southern states (Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools)
- Gale currently serves as a member of the North Carolina Board of Nursing whose mission is to protect NC citizens by ensuring that nurses licensed in our state are held to high educational, practice and safety standards.
Gale and her family are active members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
